I joined the GPHI Advisory Council because in my career as an internist and in my own personal life, I have witnessed and experienced the power and importance of positive psychology and emotional well-being in my own health and the health of my patients. I came through this understanding through the practice of yoga and meditation which allowed me the space to get “out of my head” and experience more fully in my body. This led me to the practice of mindfulness and the evidence-based work of MBSR and Jon Kabat Zinn. Because of this interest I became certified in Stress Management and Resiliency Training through the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine at Harvard Medical School and doing a research study with neuroscience clinicians in the use of the SMART program in counteracting stress, burnout and building resilience. This work naturally led me to becoming board-certified in lifestyle medicine.
